At Nature & Nurture Farm, the fridge has a different role. Look inside and you will find glass jars, paper envelopes and bags, full of organic and rare heirloom seeds.

Have you ever had a shrub? Not the short, green bushes you might be thinking of, but the drinking vinegar? These historical beverages are a refreshingly tart alternative to pop and are very easy to make with whatever produce you have available according to the seasons.
While this conference is a regional event, highlighting the Macomb County food system is the theme of this year’s All About Food Conference. A keynote panel of Macomb County food and beverage business owners will kick off the day, setting the focus on the local context. The speakers will share about their businesses and their role in supporting locally sourced food and locally made adult beverages. The panel will include voices from a vineyard, brewing supply store and a brew house/restaurant.
Did you know that nearly 40% of the food produced in the United States ends up in the landfill? And about 95% of this discarded food ends up in landfills or combustion facilities where it contributes significantly to greenhouse gas production. If global food waste were a country, it would be the world’s third largest emitter of greenhouse gases, behind the U.S. and China (1). Crazy, right?!
I am not sure what I was thinking when I asked the owners of Belgiumtown Bar & Restaurant if I could host a locally sourced Chef Dinner in the dead of the UP winter. Part of me liked the idea of the challenge, but the goal was also to highlight the local food in our area and how we can better utilize products being grown by our neighbors.
Ann Arbor Seed Company is a small farm, growing quality vegetable and flower seeds since 2012. We operate less than an acre, just outside of the city. You would be amazed at how much seed production we can squeeze out of our small piece of land. The small scale keeps us close to the crops so we can give them the attention they deserve.
