Kick off a Healthy Summer with the YMCA

Bailey Samp, Event, Farmers Markets, Find Local Food, Get Involved, Health

When kids are inspired, they can do anything, which is why the YMCA hosts a national event each year to do just that! Healthy Kids Day is a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families, awaken their imagination, allow them to explore new activities and choose healthier habits.

The FREE event on April 21st  will be an opportunity for kids and families to explore local vendors, take part in educational activities and learn how to keep their minds and bodies active as they gear up for summer vacation.

Join me this month as we’ll take a look into the lives of two maple syrup farmers, Margo and Allen Ammons, as they share their love for syrup making, the joy of being outside in the woods, and the anticipation of the season.

Winter on the Farm: Daybreak Dreamfarm

Bailey Samp, Farmers Markets, Find Local Food, Recipes, Stories

We’ve asked three different farmers during the long winter months, “What are your plans this winter?” The winter is a very different time for farmers, it’s a time for reflection, a rapid change of pace, and occasionally a chance to relax!

This month, we spoke to Patrick and Kelly of Daybreak Dreamfarm. The two met working for the Maine Conservation Corps, found their way to Pond Hill Farm for an internship a few years later and decided to cultivate their own dream and start a farm in 2014!
