People’s Food Co-op Bumble Babies

Our Bumble Babies Bites are a People’s Food Co-op favorite- and for good reason! One of the ingredients that make them so irresistible is that we use pure Michigan honey.

Bees have a complex and interesting life cycle which would make a story all on its own. The fairly high PH (3-4.5) makes honey extremely acidic even though all that comes through is the sweet delicious flavor. These are the qualities that make this an eternal food. So as long as the jar remains sealed and no water gets in, honey will last forever!

As far back as 1900BC this sticky salve was used to cover wounds. The nectar collected by the bees transforms into hydrogen peroxide, a natural byproduct of an enzyme they carry. Local honey is also said to help with allergies.

Remember, not all honey is the same. Look for unprocessed and raw whenever possible. Most commercially processed honey found in bear shaped bottles has been processed so it no longer contains any pollen. Honey that’s fresh from the comb will tend to have a grainy look to it. You may even see some lovely pollen and edible comb.

Follow this simple recipe to make your own Bumble Babies at home:

Ingredients

3/4 cup Peanut Butter

1 cup Michigan Honey

1/2 teaspoon Sea Salt

3 cups Sesame Seeds roasted 12 minutes

2cups Sunflower Seeds roasted 8 minutes

1 cups Shredded Coconut roasted 4 minutes

1/2 cup Raw Large Cashews roasted 4 minutesEx

Grease and line pans with parchment paper.

In mixer, combine peanut butter, honey, sea salt. Mix well until smooth. Add seeds, coconut & cashews. Mix to blend. Press half of mixture into pan. Smooth top with plastic dough cutter for even baking.

Bake for about 12 minutes at 300* F or until browned. Cool and remove from pan.
