The Rebrand of Main Street Bistro

Find Local Food, Guest Post, Katie Buckler, Retail, Stories

When you hear Gaylord, people from downstate will list the golf courses they have played and the beautiful outdoor activities they have participated in. When you’re looking for the up-and-coming food scene, people tend to go more towards Traverse City or Petoskey area. We, at Main Street Bistro, are trying to change that.

Changing our menu and identity at Main Street Bistro was our first step in this endeavor. Our new menu that debuted May 22, 2017 features all local proteins and as many other local products as we could find to use in our kitchen. We shop at the Farmers Market weekly for sources to use in specials all week long.

The menu is focused around a farm to table theme with Grass fed beef from Alpena General Store or Bison burger from Metz Bison in Posen, and MI made cheeses and crackers for charcuterie boards, featuring Boss Mouse Cheese and Frog Hollow Farm. A favorite addition to the menu is our new dinner entrée: Chicken and Waffles, featuring maple syrup from Hefco Farms blended with local bacon to give it a unique flavor. We pride ourselves on making almost everything on our menu from scratch and using the most local sources we can find.

Along with the menu, we’ve changed around our Market as well. Our new Michigan Market now features Michigan-made and sourced products for sale. You will find our cheeses and crackers off the menu sold in packages for you to take home. Our market now features an entire grab and go cooler stocked full of Michigan made beverages, fresh smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and sides all for your convenience. Stocking 4 entire shelves with all Michigan wasn’t easy, but we accomplished that too!

We don’t only carry the theme throughout the food and Market, but we also kept it going behind the bar as well! We started off switching all fountain drinks and coffee syrups to Northwoods Soda made with 100% cane sugar. All our coffee for everything from a simple cup of joe to a crème brulee latte is from Keweenaw Coffee Works. Michigan draft beer, eclectic Michigan microbrews, house infused vodkas, and specialty cocktails are all things you’ll find here at Main Street!

Our motto is Drink Local, Eat Local, Shop Local and we would love for you to join us!
