Corn Festival at the Birmingham Farmers Market

BIRMINGHAM, MI, August 4, 2017 – Celebrate one of Michigan’s sweetest harvests with games, special kids crafts, demonstrations and old-fashioned corn shelling at the Birmingham Farmers Market Corn Festival on Sunday, August 13 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Enjoy fresh prepared corn dishes including roasted corn, kettle popcorn, corn bread and other homemade recipes. The day’s top seller will be fresh roasted Michigan sweet corn.

Attendees will see and pet a variety of farm animals including goats and sheep, courtesy of Bowers School Traveling Farm. The event will also feature the following food trucks: Ned’s Travel Burger, Franks Etc. and Nosh Pit Detroit. Chris Gadulka, Executive Chef at Toast Birmingham, will be on site preparing a special corn dish with samples for market patrons to taste.

“The Corn Festival typically draws our largest crowd of the season,”said Ingrid Tighe, executive director of the Birmingham Shopping District. “From the moment you enter the market, you can smell the sweet corn roasting.”

The Birmingham Farmers Market averages 2,700 shoppers each week and was recently ranked number two in the ‘Top 9 Michigan Farmers Markets’ article by Best Things Michigan. The market proudly features exclusively Michigan-grown produce and is subject to Michigan growing patterns. It offers a hometown experience that’s fun for all ages, with fresh prepared foods, live music, a children’s craft area and more. Throughout the season more than 60 booths feature a diverse array of locally and regionally grown produce including vegetables, fruits, freshly prepared foods, eggs, honey, jams and jellies, fresh meat, poultry, dog treats, flowers and garden plants, plus baked goods, hand-crafted items, soaps and decorative items.
